Photos, observations, general locations of our herpin' adventures!
Below you will see various herps and inverts of interest we have seen on our herping adventures. We have included links to suggested places other herp enthusiasts may want to visit as well as photos and ID's, City and State, and year each subject was found.
Western MA
Western Mass is a large and well forested area of New England. The best places to go herping around here, and where most of the species we have found can be seen at the Quabbin Reservoir. They have many trails and paved paths and have certain rules about water craft but in the past have allowed canoeing and kayaking. If you're in the area and want to do some herping, or even just go on a nice long hike, the Quabbin Reservoir is a great place to stop. Contact and directions for Quabbin Reservoir can be found here: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/quabbin.htm
There is also a great nature center in Amherst, MA called the Hitchcock Center that has trails, tours, environmentalist speeches, and much more for kids and adults. http://www.hitchcockcenter.org/
