We just finished writing the DIY vivaria section on the site, if you hover your cursor over Habitats and Vivaria the DIY page link will pop out. We still have a few more pictures to put in showing how we did the electrical, and pictures of the happy new tenants! Hopefully this will help inspire you to create your own naturalistic vivaria for your geckos too. :)
After three weeks of constructing every night for about an hour we have finally completed another vivarium. I will be writing a DIY section for the website for anyone who wants to see how we did it and try it out on their own! The entire project was completed for under $70.00! (this is a bit cheaper than all the supplies cost since we already had a lot of them in the house from other projects) We are now housing our eurydactoles agricolae and cytrodactylus elok in the modified curio cabinet vivarium. To see pictures, and read how we created it click on the DIY tab on the left. For other ideas and to see photos of vivariums other people create we suggest checking out vivariumforum.com
We just received our first abronia graminea and trio of eurydactylodes Agricolae! Now to finish their permanent vivariums, take a million more pictures, and get some care info up! Very exciting
We took a trip to upstate NY this weekend and picked up our new baby! She's an adorable subadult female golden greek tortoise. Pics soon :D We did own an adult pair of golden greeks 5 years ago, but we didn't know they were wild caught and they died from a severe internal parasite infestation just weeks after we got them. This new female is CB, and we plan to make sure all of our tortoises are CB in the future to prevent such tragic deaths from happening.
Well the incubator has been full non-stop all summer. We're up to 35 hatchlings of various species, mostly crested geckos. We are keeping a close eye on our first nephrurus levis levis egg, as well as our first clutch from Cyrtodactylus Elok. Assuming we've done everything right we should have babies from both species in another month!
On a side note, this sunday is the NEHS meeting for July! This month's presentation about the Tuatara should be extremely interesting. We will be attending along with potential members of a newly formed herp club for Western MA residents. We look forward to meeting everyone that can attend, and scheduling our first offical meeting in August! If you're in the 413 area code and interested in getting involved, feel free to stop by the contact page! Well we finally decided to proceed with the idea of a local Herpetology/Herpetoculture club. We are planning to head out to the New England Herpetological Society's meeting 7/11 from 1-4pm to see how an established Herp club operates. If you live in the 413 area code and are interested in meeting some herp-minded individuals feel free to contact us!
Our goal is to create a diverse group of people that are interested in trading knowledge, experiences, and working on local conservation efforts. Hopefully we'll find enough interested people! After only 1 year of owning nephrurus levis levis we have successfully gotten to the point of fertile eggs laid! From what we've read incubation can still prove a bit tricky, but we're 1/2 way to CB babies! New species are so m
Well we've officially got our first clutch of Lygodactylus willimansii eggs, after only owning the parents for 4 months! Lots of male breeding displays from our Nephrurus levis levis! Our first high colored crested gecko babies are finally coloring up! They're definitely going to be some amazingly vibrant and colorful animals :) And hopefully we will have our new light box finished and be able to start taking some nice photos of all of our breeders and new babies by the end of the month.
Well April has brought our first high colored red/orange blotch gargoyle gecko with 4 more in the incubator and a clearly gravid mother. This baby was a great find for easter and should be stunning as an adult.
We were also finally able to put together our Nephrurs Levis Levis pair for the first time. We haven't witnessed any copulation yet, but it's only been a day so we'll try to be patient. :D April is also bringing us to the Manchester NH expo as well as the first new Greater Phili Expo which use to be the Hamburg, PA expo. Hopefully we'll find some really amazing animals to add to our collection. |
